Professor, Intercultural Communication

Dr. Monica Gallegos completed her M.A. in Communication and Journalism at the University of New Mexico, and her Ph.D. at the University of Arizona with a focus in Health Communication and a minor in Public Health. Dr. Gallegos studies how interpersonal relationships impact health in underrepresented, underserved, understudied, and at-risk populations, including Latinas/os/xs, pregnant women seeking treatment for opioid addiction, as well as incarcerated women, their children, and the guardians of their children. Dr. Gallegos teaches a variety of courses at the undergraduate level, including Interpersonal Communication, Health Communication, Communication Theory, Intercultural Communication, Public Speaking, Advanced Public Speaking, Health Campaigns, and Lifespan Communication. At the graduate level, Dr. Gallegos teaches Health Communication and Interpersonal Communication.
