About the Scholarship

The Edward D. Senella Memorial Scholarship honors a beloved member of the Tarzana Treatment Centers community whose legacy reflects a deep commitment to recovery, education, and service. This scholarship supports individuals pursuing the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counseling Certificate at Tarzana Treatment Centers College (TTCC), especially those with lived experience or a demonstrated passion for serving communities impacted by substance use.

What the Scholarship Covers

Recipients of the Edward D. Senella Scholarship receive full financial support for:

TTCC SUD Program Tuition

Student registration for accreditation (CAADE, CADTP, or CCAPP)

IC&RC Exam Preparation Course

SUD Certification Exam registration

Required course materials

Graduation fees

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

Be 18 years of age or older

Hold a high school diploma or equivalent

Be at least one year out of treatment

Complete TTCC SUD application: Apply Here

Submit a personal statement (see prompt below)

Provide at least one letter of support

Personal Statement Prompt

In 1,000 words or fewer (approximately 2–2.5 double-spaced pages, 12-point font), respond to the following:

Inspiration & Alignment: What motivates you to become a Substance Use Disorder counselor, and how does this goal align with your long-term personal or professional aspirations?

Application of Knowledge: How do you plan to apply what you learn in the program to support individuals and communities affected by SUD?

Community Engagement: In what ways will you raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect others to resources and support?

Note: Use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, Kindo AI) for personal statements or letters of support is strictly prohibited. Submissions found to use AI will not be considered.

Letters of Support

Please submit 1–2 letters of support as part of your application. At least one letter must verify your connection to the Substance Use Disorder field.

Letters should speak to your:

Character
Commitment to recovery or service
Readiness for the SUD Counseling Certificate Program

Application Deadlines

Applicants will be notified of their status within five business days following the application deadline.

Selection Criteria

The Edward D. Senella Memorial Scholarship is a highly competitive opportunity. While many qualified individuals apply each cycle, only two scholarships are awarded per cohort.

Applications are evaluated holistically based on the following criteria:

Completeness and accuracy of the application

Strength of the personal statement, including clarity of goals and alignment with the scholarship’s mission

Demonstrated commitment to recovery, community service, or behavioral health

Academic readiness and potential for success in the SUD Counseling Certificate Program

Due to the limited number of awards, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit thoughtful, well-prepared applications Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.
