From Fear to Healing
What does a Crisis Care Specialization mean?
TTC College’s Crisis Care training program is designed for certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists who would like to work with consumers experiencing or at risk of a mental-health or substance use-related crisis. The program equips peer specialists with the tools to successfully navigate systems and resources to support consumers in pre-crisis, active crisis, and post crisis.
What You’ll Learn
Our Crisis Care Specialization is an accelerated 2-week long (40 hours total) program which can be taken in-person, online, or through a hybrid version. Students choosing this path will learn the following:
PSS 122: Crisis Engagement & Resources
This introductory course established the fundamentals of building rapport and supportive relationships with consumers. Peer students will examine common mental health and substance use challenges encountered during crises and learn evidence-based early intervention and de-escalation strategies to provide a safe and recovery-oriented support.
PSS 123: Trauma & Crisis Planning
Using evidence-based practices, peer students will learn how to provide crisis care support to consumers. Peer students will explore the core principles of trauma-informed practices and identify how trauma impacts an individual's overall wellness. Peer students will develop skills in navigating crisis care systems, legal rights resources, reporting requirements, and other key responsiblities.
PSS 124: Crisis & Special Populations
This course explores the impact of trauma on diverse populations, including individuals with co-occurring disorders. Students will examine how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and systemic inequities contribute to crisis experiences and learn how strength-based language, cultural humility, and nonjudgmental practices support healing and recovery.
PSS 125: Resolving Conflict
This course introduces evidence-based practices and techniques used in crisis intervention and care. Students will learn how to develop support plans that promote positive outcomes for consumers and identify community resources that help prevent crises and support navigation through the crisis care system.

This course focuses on self-management strategies for crisis care peer specialists to promote effective consumer support and positive outcomes.
