The PSS program at TTCC is a three-week training designed for individuals with personal or family experience in behavioral health or substance use recovery. It equips participants with the skills to support others in their recovery journey and prepares them to apply for California state certification as a Peer Support Specialist. The program costs $1,600, plus a nonrefundable $67 registration fee, which is required to secure enrollment.

To qualify for PSS, Applicants must be at least 18 years old, provide a valid photo ID, and have lived experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery (or have supported a loved one through it). They must also be willing to share their experience in a professional capacity and demonstrate a strong commitment to personal and community recovery.

The program runs for three consecutive weeks, totaling 80 training hours, with students expected to dedicate 20 hours per week to classes and related assignments.

Core topics include Substance Use Disorders, Recovery Principles, Trauma-Informed Care, Confidentiality, and Documentation, along with other relevant peer support practices. Yes. TTC offers employment opportunities to individuals with lived experience, including those who were previously incarcerated. Program graduates may pursue positions such as Peer Support Specialist or Technician I or II within our Substance Use Disorder (SUD) service programs. They may also register as SUD counselors to provide counseling, recovery support services, and case management. In addition, graduates may join our mental health service teams to support individuals affected by behavioral health challenges.

All PSS Specialization applicants must be a certified Peer Specialist to qualify. 

The Medi-Cal Peer Support Training Program is offered in three different platforms for student flexibility. Optional formats include online, in-person, and hybrid format. Applicants are able to indicate their interest on the application.

A refund, minus the nonrefundable registration fee, is available only if withdrawal occurs before the first class begins. Once the program starts, no refunds are issued.

Yes. Students may request a transfer to a different cohort up to two times during their enrollment. Please email peers@tarzanatc.org if you are requesting a cohort transfer.

No. Each specialty requires a separate application and enrollment process, as program requirements may differ. However, each specialization will require you to be a certified peer.


Background & Eligibility Notice
Tarzana Treatment Centers College welcomes all applicants, including those who are justice-impacted. A past conviction does not automatically disqualify you from admission to our certification programs. 

However, please note the following important considerations: 

  • Some practicum sites and employers may require background checks. 
  • Placement agencies may have restrictions based on criminal history. 
  • Completion of practicum is a required component for program completion and certification.
