Frequently Asked Questions
Our Ubuntu Rising Scholars Academy, also known as URSA, was designed to help any person who has been justice-impacted. At TTC College, we believe everyone has a right and is deserving of guidance to reshape their future, without judgement.
What is the URSA program?
Rooted in the African philosophy “I am because we are,” Ubuntu is more than a program. It’s a community. Here, you are seen, heard, and supported every step of the way. The URSA program provides educational and workforce development pathways for individuals with justice-involved backgrounds. Its primary goals are to reduce recidivism and increase access to supportive employment opportunities.
What does justice-impacted mean?
A person who has been justice-impacted could mean you’ve had personal involvement with the justice system, experienced foster care, dealt with immigration-related barriers, or had close family members (like a parent or sibling) affected by these systems. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please email ubuntu@tarzanatc.org.
Who can enroll in URSA?
The program is open to adults who have been impacted by the justice system, including those who are formerly incarcerated or currently under community supervision.
What services are included?
URSA offers a wide range of support services, including job readiness training, certificate programs such as the Peer Support Specialist (PSS) program, academic advising, and reentry navigation assistance.
Do I have to pay for URSA services?
No, you do not have to pay for URSA services. URSA is fully funded through public grants, and all services are provided free of charge to eligible participants.
Is this a residential program?
No. URSA is a community-based, non-residential program. Some courses and services may also be delivered virtually.
How do I know if I qualify?
How long is the URSA program?
The URSA program is 12 months long, regardless of enrollment in any TTCC academic program.
What happens after I finish the program?
Upon completion, participants may transition into internships, employment opportunities, or further education. TTCC staff continue to provide ongoing support during this transition.
